Global sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in May rallied 24% YoY to 1.6 million units, market research firm Rho Motion reported.

Among which, sales in China rose over 24% YoY to 1.02 million units, marking the first time this year that monthly sales exceeded one million units.

In Europe, sales hiked 36% YoY to 330,000 units, while North American sales rose 7.5% YoY to 160,000 units. Sales in other countries climbed 38% YoY to 150,000 units.

Robust growth in China offset the slowdown in North America, the researcher noted, which also mentioned that BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)'s exports to Mexico, Southeast Asia, and Uzbekistan dramatically boosted sales in these regions.
